Me, myself, and I

In most role-playing games, to define your character, you’ll have to go through a more or less extensive character creation process using questions—so it’s only fitting that I use a similar system to introduce myself to you.

Name: I’m Anett. You’ll find me on most socials as geekycatlady.

Age: Suffice it to say, I grew up in a world without internet and cell phones.

Profession: I’m a translator. And a writer. I used to be a journalist, but that didn’t work out.

Education: I studied media technology (until a physics test made me stop), then went on to study musicology and Old German philology. In 2019, I passed the Cambridge Proficiency C2 exam in English (with 97%), and in 2021, the DipTrans exam with 3x Merit (general, literature, social sciences).

Favorite pastime? I enjoy long walks on the beach, a good book by the fire and… kidding. (Well, I do enjoy these things; there’s a reason this is a cliché). I enjoy traveling (should do it more often, but who has the time!), photography (fun fact: all pictures on this website were taken by me), I play and listen to music (I’m a classically trained singer, plus I wrote folk music for twenty years). Lately, I’ve become quite good at cooking, and I’ve taken to reading and watching lengthy analyses about politics and the latest Supreme Court cases for fun these days (yeah, that happened…somehow). Oh, and I game, of course!

Favorite games? In random order: Thief: Deadly Shadows, Elden Ring, Ori and the Blind Forest, The Room series, The Talos Principle I+II, F.E.A.R., Against the Storm, Cities: Skylines, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and the Fallout series.

Favorite TV shows/movies? I have a habit of rewatching things I enjoyed „back in the day,“ so get ready to guess my age: The Name of the Rose, Lord of the Rings, Buffy, Supernatural (seasons 1-5, mind you), The West Wing, Black Mirror, Stargate, Star Trek (DS9, VOY, TNG), Babylon 5 (I’m probably the nerdiest B5 fan you’ll ever meet!), House M.D. („I’m a people person!“), Neon Genesis Evangelion… need I go on? I think you get the gist.

Favorite place? A short walk from my mother-in-law’s house, there is an empty lot from which you can see the San Diego skyline in the distance. That’s pretty. I’ve also become a desert geek.

Cat or dog? I’m owned by a clowder of four cats, so…guess?
