You’ve probably found this website because you were looking for—really, who has time for all that?!
TL;DR: Hi, I’m Anett. I translate videogames. I’ve been doing it for quite a while. You should hire me. I also do other stuff, such as writing, narrative design, and worldbuilding. They say I’m pretty good at it.
Let’s talk!
Well, since you insist: here’s the long version:
I am a professional translator and writer. As a native speaker of German, I work primarily in audiovisual translation from English into German for the videogames industry: localizing stories, dialogue, press releases, marketing material, UI/UX, and whatever else you have your players read. Within the vast realm of videogames, I specialize in (cosmic) horror, science-fiction, (urban, dark) fantasy—everything weird, really. I can provide solid work in other genres, of course, but these are the fields in which I truly excel.
Additionally, I’ve been branching out into translating and writing music. After all, most of my adult life, I’ve been a musician: A classically trained soprano. A singer/songwriter. A producer. As a composer, I’ve been focusing on all things fantasy/scifi. In my own pieces, I work with a large array of percussive instruments, my voice, as well as with VST and DAW recordings, providing me with unique insight into both performing and recording, along with the relevant terminology—a skill that I’m happy to employ for your musical or theatrical project.
I specialize in works that are off the beaten track—you’re working on a horror game with an intense atmosphere? You’ve just launched your historical music project? You’re planning an event around the art of expressionism? Your latest fashion line is fabulously extravagant? And now you require a writer and translator who can convey your unique message to your audience in tone that will enthrall them? You have come to the right place.
Services
Translation
Bespoke and handcrafted translation of game content, marketing material*, press releases, and related material from English into German, reviewed by another specialized translator (included in every quote). This is my bread and butter.
Please refer to my mobygames profile for partial credits and this page.
*(within my areas of expertise, such as gaming, music, popculture, and—as a weird outlier—political discourse).
Worldbuilding & Continuity
Where do your protagonists go to the restroom? How does magic work in your game world? What caused the apocalypse in your post-apocalyptic world, and how is your imagined society affected? On which mission has the crew of your spaceship embarked, and what does their homeworld’s electoral system have to do with it? And, most importantly, are there cats?
With more than twenty years of crafting complex game worlds and scenarios, I’m here to help you flesh out your world’s internal logic to avoid those pesky contradictions over which players will likely obsess in your game fora or Steam discussions.
Game Writing
Dialogue, AI barks, instructions, tutorials… all the text that will appear in your game needs to be written by someone—so why not me? I’ll come up with twenty different ways to say, “Take cover!” After all, that’s what I’ve been doing in translation since 2011. Whether you need an emotional cutscene, a harrowing jumpscare, or just some goons yelling at your player: I’m your writer.
With my extensive experience in localization, I will make sure that your game’s content is localization-friendly—saving you a ton of hassle later on.
Needless to say: For obvious (and not so obvious) reasons, I won’t use any form of generative AI in my work. No translation in ChatGPT, no quick draft in Midjourney, no shortcuts.
Please talk to me about your project; I’ll be happy to provide you with a quote or—should I be unable to take on your project myself—to refer you to someone from my vast network of experienced colleagues. I’m always willing to work out something mutually beneficial—just let me know how I can help.
